History

2019

HB 879, the North Carolina End of Life Option Act, an assisted dying bill, did not advance in the North Carolina General Assembly in the 2019 session.

2017

North Carolina State Representative Pricey Harrison (D-Guilford), together with co-sponsors Susan Fisher (D-Buncombe) and Graig Meyer (D-Durham), re-introduced a medical aid in dying bill in the 2017 session as HB 789, End of Life Option Act. The bill was rolled over to 2018 and did not advance.

2015

Representatives Harrison and Fisher, together with three co-sponsors, filed HB 611, the North Carolina Death with Dignity Act, in April 2015. The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee and later rolled over to the second year of the biennium session.

The 2015 session was the first time a death with dignity bill was considered in the North Carolina legislature.
