Representative Jim Gartner, District 53, introduced The Kansas Death with Dignity Act, HB 2202, on February 2, 2021. Representative Gartner is a strong advocate for death with dignity. 2017-2018
Introduced on January 20, 2017, HB 2120, Kansas Death with Dignity Act, was referred to the Health and Human Services Committee.
Meanwhile, a resolution in the Kansas State House, HCR 5010, was introduced to oppose “physician-assisted suicide.” A hearing took place on March 6, 2017.
Neither piece of legislation advanced.
2015-2016
The Standing Committee on Vision 2020 introduced HB 2150, the Kansas Death with Dignity Act, on January 28, 2015. Referred to the Committee on Health and Human Services, who took no action. The bill failed to meet a legislative deadline and effectively died in committee.
The 2015-2016 session was the second time a death with dignity bill was considered in the Kansas legislature.
2013-2014
HB 2068, Kansas Death with Dignity Act did not move out of Committee.
