Indiana State Representative Matt Pierce (D-Bloomington) introduced HB 1020, Indiana End of Life Options Act, at the beginning of the 2020 session.

A related bill, SB 446, introduced during the same session sought to prohibit, among other things, “(1) mercy killing; (2) lethal injection; and (3) passive withholding or withdrawal of a life prolonging procedure; by a health care provider in certain instances.”
2019
Death with dignity legislation was considered in Indiana for the first time in 2019. Indiana State Senator Lonnie Randolph (D) introduced an aid-in-dying bill, SB 300 End of Life Options Act, on January 7, 2019, The bill was referred to the Committee on Health and Provider Services. The next day, Indiana State Representative Matt Pierce (D-Bloomington) introduced a companion bill, HB 1184. The bill was referred to the Committee on Public Health. Neither bill advanced.

2018
In 2018, Rep. Pierce introduced HB 1157, Indiana Medical Aid in Dying Act, on January 4. The bill was referred to the Committee on Courts and Criminal Code.
2017
In 2017, an aid-in-dying bill was introduced in the Indiana state legislature for the first time: Rep. Pierce sponsored HB 1561, End of Life Options Act, which was filed in the Public Health committee but never received a hearing; Sen. Randolph (D) sponsored a similar bill in the state Senate (SB 273).
