History
2017-2018
Introduced by Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage), HB 54, Alaska Voluntary Ending of Life Act, was heard in the House Health & Social Services Committee on April 6, 2017, then was rolled over to the 2018 session.
The Committee passed the bill 3 to 2, with 2 abstentions, on February 2, 2018, sending it to the Judiciary Committee.
2015-2016
Representative Drummond sponsored HB 99, An act relating to the voluntary termination of life by terminally ill individuals, introducing Alaska’s first aid in dying bill in almost 20 years (HB 371, was considered in 1996). The Health & Social Services Committee hear the bill April 9, 2015, adopting several amendments.
Rolled over to the 2016 portion of the legislative session, the HB 99 failed to progress. Rep. Drummond expressed hope to see future progress on the legislation.
