History
Companion bills (HB 96/SB 198) to prohibit aid-in-dying in Alabama were introduced during the 2017 legislative session.
- SB 198 passed the Health and Human Services Committee on March 9, 2017, 7 to 1;
- HB 96 passed on March 16, 2017;
- The Senate approved an amended version 25 to 3 on April 20, and the House followed by approving 80 to 2 on April 25, 2017;
- Governor Kay Avey signed the “Assisted Suicide Ban Act” into law in May, 2017.
