Afterword: Physician-Assisted Dying Concepts

As Some States Adopt Aid in Dying Bills, Others Head in a Different Direction

Some two dozen states are considering an aid in dying bill in the 2017 congressional session, like Hawai’i, or pursuing a ballot measure, like South Dakota. In these places, public polls have often documented strong majorities of the population in support of this end-of-life option. In other states, the needle is moving in the other direction. The Oklahoma legislature, for example, is considering a bill that would require, in the event a bill were to pass in the future to allow physician-assisted dying, that the cause of death be listed as suicide, rather than the patient’s terminal illness. This is a step in the wrong direction. Learn how you can get involved on our Take Action page.
