In Memoriam: Jenny “Coopdizzle” Cooper (1982-2016)

December 21, 2016

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death on December 1, of Jenny “Coopdizzle” Cooper, a friend of our organization who advocated for end-of-life options in Texas. According to her husband, she died the way she wanted: in her sleep and in his arms. She was 34.

In a video she recorded for us earlier this year, Jenny said she wanted to “gather everybody around, say goodbye, tell them that I love them and that I’m going to miss them…and peacefully fall asleep in the arms of my husband…”

We met Jenny online through the late Penny Shelfer, co-founder of Texas Death with Dignity. Suffering from a Stage IV cancer, Jenny documented her end-of-life journey in a series of YouTube videos. Cindy Merrill, the other co-founder of Texas Death with Dignity, said, “She had such a bright spirit and a real sense of playfulness.”

A self-described “cancer fighter”, Jenny was a champion of death with dignity as an end of life option that should be available to all who qualify. Her courage in the face of death was an inspiration to us.
