  • Implementation began on Thursday, June 9, of the California End of Life Option Act. All along the West Coast, people now have a full range of end-of-life options, providing them with autonomy, freedom, and peace of mind at the end of their lives.

Would Aid in Dying Be Right for Me?

An interesting statistic: over the past 20 years in Oregon, where the country’s oldest Death with Dignity law took effect in 1997, only about two out of three of the people who apply for and receive medications to hasten death end up taking them. For many with terminal illnesses, the loss of power and control over their disease and, ultimately, the quality of their life, is one of the scariest parts of dying. Having access to aid-in-dying medication that would help them end their life peacefully, surrounded by their loved ones, can be a great comfort in their final months.
